Includes a History of the Bards with an account of their music, poetry and musical instruments, and a section on the musical instruments of the Welsh, accompanied by a large engraving of those instruments. Among the music is the reputed first printing of the music to 'Nos Galan', now used in the popular carol, 'Deck the Halls'. The binding has at one time been restored, replacing the leather, new board paper with the original marbled paper laid down, and new free endpapers, though the pastedowns appear original. Plain leather spine. A very good copy. The work was later expanded in 1794 and 1824. A second volume, 'The Bardic Museum' was issued in 1802 and a third, 'Hen Ganiadau Cymru' in 1820. ESTC T115800.
