Lacks preliminary and ultimate blank pages; tip of spine lightly worn, leaves A5-8 have some worming with occasional slight loss,and leaves A7&8 have been remargined, else a very good copy. The probable date of printing (1697) is from Wing; OCLC, however, notes that it must have been printed before 1743, by which time John de Cock was dead, and suggests a date of about 1700-1724. Folio. (xx),205pp. Printer's device on title; woodcut initials. First Latin edition translated by John Grodecius. The dedicatory matter is followed by a Life of St Cyril, a discussion of his works and an index. Early 19th century marbled paper boards, later lettering label, gilt; page edges stained yellow. The text block is generally clean and crisp, with an ownership name on the title and two stamps from Domkapital Munchen; the title page is lightly soiled, and short marginal tears (no loss) to the final 11 leaves. The binding has wear at the spine tips and edges, later free endpapers, else is very good.

Woodcut initials throughout, with hand-painted initials at the beginnings of some of the books. 18th century half leather, paper boards, gilt title. Leather worn at edges, but hinges fine. Ownership bookplates and names on endpapers, and in contemporary hands on title page. Light soil on title page; one page with closed marginal tear, extending in the text, early repaired with archival tape; another page with a burn mark obliterating a portion of text and with an early paper repair. Otherwise a clean, tight copy. In the Colophon: "Imprensis vero honesti viri Joannis parvi eiusdem universitatis librarii. in dicto vico in leone argenteo commorantis. Anno ab incarnatione domini millesimo quingentesimo quarto. pridie idus Decembris." See note after Darlow and Moule, 6090: A folio edition of the Bible ... was printed at Paris by Thielman Kerver for Johannes Parvus (i.e., Jean Petit), 12 Dec. 1504: Copinger 132. This Bible and other contemporary editions contain the corrections made by Albertus Castellanus (i.e., da Castello).... The 'plenus apparatus' includes various preliminary pieces and other helps in the description of earlier editions. T. Kerver was a German who began printing in Paris in 1497, and produced many beautiful books of devotion."

First edition of this important dictionary and Judaic reference. Folio. 2680 numbered double columns + 64 pp. index. Original full vellum binding with raised bands on spine. Title hand-lettered in the second spine compartment; boards with a blind stamped design. With both the engraved title page and the typeset title, as well as the scarce engraved portrait of the author. An impressive example of seventeenth century printing, incorporating a variety of Roman, Italic, Chaldean, Greek, Hebrew and Gothic typefaces. Text is arranged alphabetically according to the Hebrew alphabet, but text itself is in Latin. Hinge cracked but firm; lacks ties; top spine compartment neatly replaced with matching vellum; old library stamp on title; some soil and cracking to the vellum, text paper browned with age in places; overall a very good copy. One of the two works on which Buxdorf's reputation rests; edited by his son and published posthumously, and later used as the basis of Furst's great Hebrew concordance of 1840.

Small 8vo. (8),32,(48),33-206pp. Contemporary full calf. Spine in six compartments with raised bands. Leather lettering label, gilt; and blocked on the upper board: "Chancery Library". With simple blind rules on the edges of the boards. Originally published in 1655 as "Reports of Speciall Cases Touching Several Customs and Liberties of the City of London." Of the two varieties recorded by Wing, this is the variety with line 2 of the imprint ending with "St." and with the "2" of signature mark "A2" under the "te" of "often". The annexed report on ancient customs has its own title page, but the pagination is continuous. The pagination is interrupted after p. 32 for a report of the Case concerning the Prisage of Wine. Old library stamp on the title page and on page 1, light rubbing, lettering label lacks the right half, else a near fine copy. Wing C311; ESTC R4851.

A few tiny wormhboles occasionally affecting a letter or a woodcut line, but generally in non-printed areas; some leaves with a light tide mark; a very good copy which, even tough lacking title and colophon, contains all of the celebrated woodcuts. Occasional notes in a contemporary hand which also usually crosses through the name of Gesner.

In spite of its quirky and sloppy pagination it is complete. Text in two columns with marginal notes. The final 8 pages are the index. "Escrita por el Rmo. P. Maestro Fray Ioseph de Almonazaia." Pp. 612ff consist of texts of the canonization papers, in Latin with a translation into Spanish. Rebound to style in quarter vellum, with marbled paper boards, plain undecorated spine. The title page is rubbed and mounted but complete. Several pages have been neatly remargined or silked, the corner of leaf V1 has had a corner replaced with slight loss, and the last leaf of the index, leaf fff8, has a defective bottom corner with loss of a few lines. The textblock has a light dampstain throughout. Still a very good copy of an extremely rare work on the life of Saint Bernard of Clairvaux (1091?-1153). Woodcut initials and tailpieces, and a large woodcut coat of arms on the dedication page. And contemporary ink inscription at the end of the preliminary matter, some of it stricken through, the rest reading: "Carmelita Calzad.; Librería del Carmen Calzado de Toledo". Palau 8184. In Spanish except for the Canonization material, which is in both Latin and Spanish.

One of Dodwell's many theological treatises, this one taking the side of Patavius on the subject of the priesthood of the laity and the celebration of the Eucharist where pastors are absent. This volume contains: Ingulfi Croylandensis Historia; Petri Blesensis Continuatio; Chronica de Mailros; Annales Burtonenses; and Historiae Croylandensis Continuatio. This volume was followed by a later volume, edited by Thomas Gale, which contained additional chronicles. With the statement at the foot of the title page: "Published by order of that House." The headpiece on page one consists of repeating crowns over a Tudor rose, a fleur-de-lis, a Scottish thistle and an Irish harp. Gauden, 1605-1662, bishop of Worcester, putative author of the "Eikon Basilike." In the early days of the Civil War his sympathies were with the Parliament, and for a short time in 1643 he was a member of the Westminster Assembly. Later he changed his opinions, but was able nonetheless to retain his living throughout the Commonwealth period. At the Restoration in 1660 he was made Bishop of Exeter, and in 1662 was translated, not as he hoped, to Winchester, but to Worcester. Scarce. Wing G362; ESTC R5024.

The first part is an abridgement of Geoffrey of Monmouth's Historia Regum by Virunio, a native of Treviso. He abridged Geoffrey's history under a commission for the family of the Badaer, prominent Venetians who were originally from Britain. Part 2 is the Itinerarium Cambriae by Giraldus de Barri, who preached throughout Wales in 1188. Part 3 is Giraldus' description of Wales. Rebacked with the old, somewhat worn, spine nicely and neatly laid-on. Loose bookplate of Thomas Edward Watson laid-in.
