Purple cloth, the upper board blocked in a regal design in white, blue, pink and gilt. Top edge gilt. Printed in red and black, with many text illustrations. Endpapers in deep blue with a repeating design of rampant lions. Cloth on rear board replaced with similar, but brighter, cloth; general sunning; last 6 leaves stained from damp, with light offset of text. Still an acceptable copy.

Six volumes. 8vo. Illustrated with twenty two portraits and a frontispiece. Original publishers paper boards; printed spine labels. Old library stamp on the title page and a label on the front pastedowns: "Three Weeks for Reading". Volume 1 with a very old cloth repair to the spine; all volumes with worn edges and spines; but text blocks in very good condition, and untrimmed. Actually this is three volumes in six, and the second volume of each part contains transcriptions of documents supporting the text of the first.

The title page reads MDCXXXV, but has been altered in ink to show the correct imprint date: MDCLXXXV. Hinges and boards at the hinge sides have been neatly mended and patched; light wear to the edges and spine tips, else a very good copy. With an old seminary bookplate on the front paste down. One of Dodwell's many theological treatises, this one taking the side of Patavius on the subject of the priesthood of the laity and the celebration of the Eucharist where pastors are absent.
