The Opinion of Dow; Or, Lorenzo's Thoughts, on Different Religious Subjects, in an Address to the People of New-England

Windham: J. Byrne, 1804. Hardcover. 12mo. 3-164pp., lacking leaf A1 (title page, supplied in facsimile). Disbound; paper browned as usual for this period, else very good. In a custom clamshell case constructed to resemble a contemporary binding with leather spine, black lettering label, gilt, and marbled paper 'boards' in a nonpareil design. One of his earliest books, Dow had a great effect on American religion in the early 19th century. Many parents named their children for him; Brigham Young's younger brother was so named: Lorenzo Dow Young. Important to Mormon scholars as Dow records in this book heretofore little-known Mormon-parallel beliefs which were accepted by people with whom he came in contact. Rare. Good. Item #18173
