Leeds & London: Alf Cooke, Ltd., n.d., ca. 1907. W. Heath Robinson. First edition. Hardcover. Very good. Item #18325
Four volumes. Small folio. Each volume with red cloth spine, printed paper over boards, and with a full color paste on by Robinson to the upper board. Each volume has ten full color plates by Robinson, making a total of 40 plates. (Later editions usually have only two plates per volume). A farcical rendition of the history of British royalty 1066-1901, but focusing mainly on the period to 1689, in humorous verse by Roland Carse. Corners generally worn, and light wear to the bindings; boards of one volume yawning slightly, one paste-on lacking a tiny piece of the margin; a couple of cracked inner hinges and someone has written 'tomorrow' on the free endpaper of the third volume; but a very good set and quite scarce.
