Bonneville was one of the first American men to explore and map the West from Green River to the Great Salt Lake and onto Walla Walla. This work also includes Walker's account of trapping over the Sierra Nevada to California. Bonneville's expedition paved the way for the later expeditions of Fremont, Stansbury, and Wilkes.
These two maps are examples of some of the earliest Western United States maps.
