New York: Frederick A. Stokes, (1900). Maud Humphrey; Mabel Humphrey. First edition. Hardcover. Good. Item #19024
Folio. 6 full page color plates (including the title page) by Maud Humphrey, plus in-text illustrations and text by Mabel Humphrey, all printed on one side only on heavy paper. The binding is a red cloth spine, printed paper boards both upper and lower showing "Paul Revere" on his hobby horse. The boards are soiled, rough and well worn at the edges and corners, with stains on the lower; the text block is very good, with the occasional light fingering soil. Noted is another publisher's, or at least early, binding of a repeating design on the board papers instead of the Humphrey painting of Revere (priority unknown.) A surprisingly rare book by the iconic Maud Humphrey, who trained, inter alia, under James McNeil Whistler.
