New York: G. P. Putnam's Sons, 1939. Hardcover. 8vo. Original decorated blue cloth, front and spine panels stamped in gold, top edge stained red, fore-edge untrimmed. Small illustrations in the text by the author, endpapers illustrated by Robert Lawson. Small dent and hole in spine, gilt darkened as usual, else a very good copy. The dustwrapper is sunned on the spine; it is rough along the edges and folds with a little loss at the spine tips and the bottom edges. There is no price on the flap, indicating that this is the BOMC edition. Only the presence of a price on the dustwrapper determines edition status as the books themselves are identical in both the first US and the BOMC editions.
Overall this is a very good lookalike for the first US edition.
