Boston and London: Ralph T. Nale and Co.; The Medici Society, n.d. (1920s). Illustrated by Sir Russell Flint. Hardcover. 8vo. 432, 539pp. Two volumes in one. Glossary. This is the one volume edition of Flint's celebrated edition of Malory. It was first published in a four volume limited edition in 1910-1911. In 1920 it was issued in a two volume edition. This one-volume edition appeared later, probably in the mid-1920's. The pagination follows the two volume edition of 1920.
In a contemporary, but unsigned, binding of full green crushed morocco. Elegantly bound, using massed tools to form undulant borders formed by volutes, fleurons, flowers and many small tools. Raised bands, with the panels tooled with floral borders, crowns in the first and last panel, and a large 'A' beneath the tooled title. Gild inner dentelles. Florentine endpapers in a red, green and yellow repeating stylized floral pattern. Ribbon marker. Top edge gilt. Altogether a lovely binding. The spine has toned to a pleasant warm brown shade, and there is a trace of rubbing at the hinges else this is a fine copy.
Gaines, A14.a.3, which attributes a 1927 date for the single volume appearance. Fine. Item #21070
