Boston: Boston Job Print, 1878. Broadside. Broadside approximately 9½ by 22 inches printed in black ink thin purple paper. Woodcut of a giant squid attacking a three-masted clipper.
W. C. Coup had been affiliated with Barnum and had been responsible for such innovations as three rings and a circus train. By 1878, he was promoting his own circus acts.
The whole "challenge" bit is misleading verbiage. It only applies to other tent show operators exhibiting to the same audience, but goes on at length to list the many features of Coup's show.
The top of the broadside has been clipped with partial loss of the headline on both sides, else this is in very good condition.
. Very good. Item #21189
