New York: G. P. Putnam's Sons, 1939. BCE. Hardcover. 8vo. Original decorated blue cloth, front and spine panels stamped in gold, top edge stained red, fore-edge untrimmed. Small illustrations in the text by the author, endpapers illustrated by Robert Lawson. A near fine copy. The dustwrapper is lightly darkened on the spine; it is rough along the edges and folds, with a short tape repair at one spine fold at the bottom, and with all folds reinforced from within. Basically it give a very good appearance.
There is no price on the flap, indicating that this is the book club edition. Only the presence of a price on the dustwrapper determines edition status as the books themselves are identical in both the first US and the book club editions.
Overall this is a great lookalike for the first US edition.
