New York and London: Harper & Brothers, (1924?). With illustrations by Charles Bennett. Hardcover. Very good. Item #21524 .
8vo. 126pp. blue cloth blocked in dark blue and orange. There is no date of publication, only the publisher's code D-Y on the copyright page, signifying either 1924 or 1949. Given the sturdiness of the cloth and the paper, and the use of only two colors on the boards, we are inclined toward the 1924 date in the absence of any other data.
The illustrations are charming. The story was first published in the 19th century. In the preface the author notes that he took notes for the book on a trip to Brittany. And so it should be no surprise that, embedded in stories of the book, is a puppet play starring King Arthur, Elegantine (his daughter), Prince Christian of Denmark, Sir Jessamine, a Knight, and an escaped Lion.
Light wear to the edges and corners, the rear board unevenly sunned, else this is in very good condition.
