The Ill-Made Knight
New York: G. P. Putnam's Sons, 1940. First edition, first printing. Hardcover. Fine / Very good. Item #21603 .
8vo. 291pp. Blue cloth, gilt spine title and gilt art of a knight on the upper board. Top edge red. A fine copy. The dust wrapper is not price-clipped. The spine is lightly sunned, much less than usual. There roughness along the edges and folds, a short closed tear on the back, and a small hole on the spine at the rear, but still gives a very good appearance. Actually, the dust wrapper is in better condition than is usually found as it did not hold up well. This American edition preceded the British edition by a year.
White's third Arthurian offering, preceded by The Sword in the Stone and The Witch in the Wood. This title has become very difficult to find, especially in collectible condition. So far as we know, this is the only original appearance of this title; White rewrote it when it was republished as part of "The Once and Future King".
