Six volumes. Red cloth over beveled boards blocked in gilt and black. A subscription ediion of the original six novels from the plates of the original edition, replete with illustrations by John Leech or Phiz. Illustrated with hand-colored plates and steel engravings.
The set contains Handley Cross, Ask Mama, Plain or Ringlets, Mr. Romford's Hounds, Mr. Sponge's Sporting Tour and Hawbuyck Grange.
In addition are two supplemental volumes in matching publisher's bindings: Town and Country Papers, London, William Blackwood, 1929; and Mr. Jorrock's Thoughts on Hunting, London, 1925. This last has some spots on the upper board.
Each volume bears the large armorial bookplate of C.LL.W-J and an illustration of a manor house. Spines generally lightly sunned, but Mr. Sponge's Sporting Tour more so, light wear to the edges and corners, else a very good set.
With the sequels, altogether eight volumes.
