Pinocchio is presented here in the first US edition with colored plates but a piracy of the original with no attribution to Collodi. Even the title was changed to suggest a different story but, it is indeed the familiar tale first published in English six years earlier. It has been suggested that the title was changed not only to conceal the piracy but also to capitalize on the popularity of Alice in Wonderland. The illustrations are dated 1899.
