Single sheet printed on two sides granting free and secure passport to Eduardo Curnar for passage to Hong Kong, Manila, December 13, 1890. Signed by Weyler as Governor. Witnessed by the Secretary. The reverse, bearing the number 694, skips personal charactistics of the applicant. Five /20 stamps totaling one peso are affixed and canceled with the stamp of the Gobierno General. In Spanish. Very good condition with only a single fold across the center.
Valeriano Weyler y Nicolau, a native of Majorca or Cadiz, the son of a Prussian doctor, was the First Marquis of Tenerife and was Governor of the Philippines under Spanish rule from 1888-1891. He was later Minister of War in Madrid, and served as Governor-General of Cuba in the Spanish-American War.
