The author was born in San Antonio in 1858, and shares a wealth of personal information of his early life in that city and its environs. His father, John James, was a highly regarded pioneer surveyor of Texas during the Republic and early statehood.


A scarce item, with much primary source material on the development of Bexar County and the outlying Texas Hill Country.
