Presentation Set of Unbound Sheets Illustrated

Portfolio of 10 bifolia. Nine of them are from Louys, 'Contes Antiques" and on is from 'Les Liaisons Dangereuses". All of them have a full page copperplate engraving in brilliant colors. Tere are also decorative initials, tailpieces and smaller illustrations. THe bifolium from 'Les Liaisons Dangereuses:" wraps the other bifolia and also contains the colophonL "exemplaire d'artiste. S. S." And on the front, an inscription from the artist: "Pour B. Mac-GUrrin En signe d'amitie. Sylvain Sauvage. 11 fev. 32" The recipient is likely Buckley Mac-Gurrin, muralist, whose papers are in the Smithsonian. One can speculate that Sauvage was presenting examples of his best work to the muralist.
The bifolia are in near fine condition with only a little toning from age, and are protected in a custom marbled paper portfolio.
