Marbles boards, edges, and endpapers in a non-pareil pattern. Engraved frontispieces. Lengthy memoir by nephews W. E. and Sir Bartle Frere. Ornate engravedbookplates of Horation Noble Pym in each volume, as well as the 1921 signature of A F. Burleigh, Jr., on the front pastedowns and with his blindstamp on the title page. Light wear to hinges and edges else this is a very good set.

Frere (1769-1846) is noted for his Arthurian epic 'The Monks and the Giants', here present, which imitates, perhaps to a fault, the style of Italian chivalric romance as well as the style of Lord Byron. That title appears and disappears in the various editions of Frere's work, yet seems to be appropriate, even when not present and notwithstanding the fact that it properly applies only to Cantos III and IV of the epic.
